Sahil (my son who is 2 years and nearly 4 months) tried to take a book from shelf. Somehow several books fell down and Sahil was startled by the noise.
After waiting for him to recover (some small talk happened) we asked him to help to put the books back because the books were sad to be on the floor. Sahil refused.
Some discipline guides say:
“Don’t ask children to do things, because they will say no. You should tell them.”
What would you do?
(read below the picture to learn how the situation ended)
I told Sahil:
“OK, you are not ready for this yet; we will come back to this later”
and moved on to something else.
About 30 minutes or so later, I brought him back and reminded him that we need to put the books back and asked if he would help – this time he picked up the books and gave them to me. And the last few books he insisted on putting on the shelf himself.
